Cacay Oil
Cacay oil is a cold‑pressed botanical oil obtained from the nuts of the cacay tree (Caryodendron orinocense), a species native to the Colombian Amazon and Orinoquía regions. Traditionally harvested from trees growing in and around the rainforest, cacay has become valued not only for its oil, but also for the role it plays in supporting forest‑based livelihoods.

Often referred to as the Amazon’s “liquid gold," cacay oil is used in cosmetic and personal‑care formulation for its lightweight skin feel, balanced fatty‑acid profile, and versatility across product types. a text-decoration: none; color: #464feb; tr th, tr td border: 1px solid #e6e6e6; tr th background-color: #f5f5f5;
Naturally rich in linoleic acid (omega‑6) and oleic acid (omega‑9), cacay oil is commonly selected for formulations designed to support skin comfort, softness, and barrier care. It absorbs readily without a heavy or occlusive finish, making it suitable for facial oils, serums, emulsions, body products, and hair care applications.
Cacay oil also contains naturally occurring tocopherols (vitamin E), which are widely used in cosmetic formulation for their skin‑conditioning properties and to support overall product stability. Its slip, fast absorption, and neutral profile have made it a popular choice among formulators seeking plant‑based oils that perform well in both simple and more complex formulations.
Harvesting cacay nuts provides an income stream that relies on maintaining mature trees rather than clearing land, helping to create economic value from standing forest. This approach has contributed to cacay being viewed as part of a broader model where long‑term use and conservation can coexist.
