Kawakawa Pounamu is a richly green form of New Zealand nephrite jade, named after the kawakawa plant, a revered rongoā (medicinal) leaf used by Māori for healing. Like its namesake, Kawakawa Pounamu is known as a stone of resilience and restoration. Its green base, scattered with dark flecks or flowing shadows, speaks of a life woven with experience, challenge, and inherited strength.
To Māori, pounamu is never just a stone - it is a taonga tuku iho (treasure passed down), carrying mana, mauri (life force), and the echo of those who came before. Kawakawa, in particular, reminds us that healing is not perfection - it is whakapapa: the interconnection of all who walk with us, seen and unseen.
At Crystillery, we see Kawakawa Pounamu as a stone of:
- Healing through ancestral connection
- Strength gained through lived experience
- Grounding presence in times of uncertainty
- Manaakitanga - honouring yourself and others with care and respect
Whether worn close to the skin or carried as a talisman, Kawakawa Pounamu holds the quiet strength of a forest, and the wisdom of those who have stood before you. It helps you face life as you are: whole, flawed, and already enough.
