Andre Hakizimana, Rwanda, Filter
Roasted for Filter
It’s rare to find a single-farm coffee from Rwanda, making this microlot from André Hakizimana and Anathal Mukagwiza truly special. Unlike most Rwandan coffees traceable only to washing stations, this lot comes from their 1.2-hectare farm, part of the Dukunde Kawa Cooperative.
André has over 40 years of experience in coffee, starting at 15 alongside his father. A founding member of Dukunde Kawa, he stays actively involved, even working at the Mbilima washing station during the off-season. His farm practices sustainable, organic methods, including manure fertilization and shade tree planting.
Located at 2,020m, Mbilima is one of Rwanda’s highest washing stations, known for its mineral-rich soil and cool, humid climate. Its commitment to organic practices ensures consistent quality, while cooperative support helps farmers like André achieve better prices and community stability.
Despite setbacks from hailstorms in 2023, André remains resilient and passionate about coffee, dedicated to maintaining quality and supporting his family. As he says, “Even though hailstorms have affected us, we are going to push forward. You will not lose good quantities from us!"
