Japanese Gunma Bamboo Colander
Handwoven by artisans in southern Gunma Prefecture from locally sourced bamboo, this colander has been a staple of Japanese agricultural and domestic life for generations. The rim is wrapped in cherry tree bark and reinforced with copper wire, with the wire tip tucked neatly into the weave, no sharp edges, safe to handle.
Use it to wash vegetables and rice, drain and dry herbs, or bring it straight to the table as a serving basket for fruit and snacks. Over time, the bamboo shifts gradually from fresh green to deep warm brown, building a patina that only improves with age and use.
Each piece is woven by hand, so slight variations in size, colour, and texture are to be expected. That's what makes each one its own.
