Ruahine Southern Skua

The Southern Skua is designed for touring and ocean use where distances are to be covered in varying sea conditions. The Southern Skua has a low deck profile enabling it to perform extremely well in windy conditions, while its longer hull gives it greater speed and allows it to respond in a following sea to surf the waves. The Southern Skua gives maximum stability in the open sea. It’s beautiful rails allows the kayak to ride through waves and maintain a constant forward speed. Experienced users will appreciate this feature as it has the ability to 'rail' through turns and cut through the waves rather than climbing all the way up and over them.

Features.

- Well ballanced rails
- A one size "fits all" seat
- Foreward and rear deck paddle holder
- A handy "day" compartment behind the cockpit
- Heavy duty carry handles

Tim's Tip: in 2010/11 I paddled the entire coastline of New Zealand in a plastic sea kayak. While I loved the practicality of plastic, it just never had the same finesse as a composite kayak - it flexed, it got badly 'oil canned', and never looked that sharp. Now that I build these models I'm in love with the composites. I find the Southern Skua to be an absolute dream for adventure paddling as it's a yak that's designed for ocean use.
