Taranaki Neckerchief - Pohutukawa

Taranaki Maunga, Mt Taranaki, and its cone shaped form inspired this slip stitch pattern that forms the textile of this neckerchief. Starting out as a hand-knit swatch the design is translated into machine code and made seamlessly on a digital knitting machine.

A smaller scarf easily packed into a bag or worn with a sweater or coat.

All products are digitally knitted in South Auckland. The yarn is spun in Wellington.

From The Knit Shepherd Studio
Sarah Shepherd, a textile designer for film and television and hand-knitting industries locally and internationally, she lived and travelled around the globe, returning to Aotearoa in 2021. Having always had an interest in hand-kniting and exploring new techniques and ways to work with yarn she started exploring digital knitting machines and her love of combining hand and digital crafts to push both practices. This lead to Knit Shepherd Studio, which she set up to tell the stories of NZ’s origin in beautiful textiles. It's a small-scale prototyping lab and textile artist studio for New Zealand's natural fibres.
