Yukimi lanterns are identified by their round, hexagonal or octagonal roof (Kasa). As they hold snow in winter, they are often referred to as snow viewing lanterns. Traditionally placed on a flat stone or directly on the ground, near ponds and streams to create peace and tranquility.
