Michele Buccellè violoncello, Cremona, 2014

Cremona-born Michele Buccell è had a passion for violin making from a very early age, refining his craft under renowned luthier Maurizio Tadioli after graduating at 21 from the International School of Violin Making in Cremona. In 2009, he won the Subino Preti Award for the best young Cremonese maker at the XII International Triennial Competition. His instruments, of which this is an excellent example, are all made in the Cremonese tradition, using fine tonewood and other top-quality materials. His beautiful, hand-brushed oil varnish is a rich golden red-brown colour, skillfully antiqued. The tone is very resonant and even, with brilliance in the upper registers to balance the rich warmth of the lower strings. This will make an excellent soloistic cello for advanced students or young professional players.
