This handsome Tommaso Balestrieri copy viola labeled as being made in Germany in 1986, has a handwritten over-signature which may indicate it was marketed by Tan Violins in Edmonton, Canda, while the wood choice and workmanship tend towards an Asian origin. The viola with a back length of 16 1/4" (416mm), is skillfully made, and has a very lively, clear, resonant tone, easily produced, and with richness and vibrancy on the lower strings and clarity without harshness in the upper register. This will be a very rewarding instrument for a student advancing through the grades.
