“Berg” violin bow, USA
“Berg" bows were initially developed in New Zealand by American-born double bass player Bob Berg, one of the first pioneers of carbon fibre bows. On his return to the USA, he partnered with a New Zealander in Indiana, William Duff, who refined Berg’s techniques and honed the result into a world leading product. This fine example has excellent balance and feels light in the hand. Flexible during lighter playing, the stick develops more stiffness and strength under greater pressure, giving the player great versatility of response. Ricochet and sautillé bow strokes are clean and articulate, and the tone produced is creamy, luscious but clear. This is a bow used for several decades by a prominent Auckland musician which will suit advanced students and professional players.
