Michael Maurushat, silver-mounted violin bow
Michael Maurushat, now based in Australia, began his career training as a goldsmith in Alberta, Canada, before transferring this essential metal-working skill to bow making under the tutelage of Roy Quade, and through a highly productive relationship with the Oberlin bow-making workshop. That a bow of his won a BVMA prize in 2004 for outstanding playing characteristics comes as no surprise on playing this beautiful example of his work. It is a real power house, with an effortless and crystal-clear spiccato, an electric response, and a lovely balance between stiffness and flexibility in the stick which gives the bow great versatility. The tone it produces is rich, with great projection and delicious overtones. A real soloist’s bow
