Violin bow, silver-mounted, stamped “Tubbs”

James Tubbs was arguably Britain’s finest bow maker, his legacy inevitably attracting copyists all over Europe. This attractive, silver-mounted bow was almost certainly not made to deceive, but draws upon Tubbs’s style and creative vision to produce a fine bow with a clear, warm tone, a good spiccato, and lovely tonal colours. The slightly softer stick will suit a player who wants to explore and draw out sound, and the balance point, a little further up the stick towards the head, gives the bow a lighter feeling in the hand. Overall, a charming bow with a very “serene" feel to it.
