Sophora Longicarinata
Sophora longicarinata is a beautiful, fine-leaved form of the South Island Kowhai, native to the Nelson region of New Zealand. It is noted for its elongated leaves with tiny, delicate leaflets and its display of large, pale yellow flowers that appear from late winter onwards, offering a valuable early food source for native birds, especially tūī and bellbirds.
Unlike many Kowhai this species has no juvenile stage, allowing it to develop a natural, tree-like form from a young age. It is hardy, evergreen and will thrive in a wide range of conditions, making it an excellent choice for both garden landscapes and native plantings.
An elegant and resilient native that brings both beauty and ecological benefit to your garden year-round.
