Hand beaten Silver Ring
W'menswear has partnered with Karen tribe artisan 'Dada', from the Phra Bat Huai Tom village in Northern Thailand, developing a range of punk-inspired silver jewellery, made the traditional way of the Karen people.
Known for their expertise in molding, soldering, and engraving with intricate detail; Karen
silversmithing is an artform that embodies centuries-old beliefs. With a higher silver content than
sterling silver, Karen silver has a bright colour and unique malleability.
W'menswear designer, Lauren Yates prioritises working with women artisans, throughout her homeland of Thailand & in doing so, finds much meaning, happiness and purpose to her cause. While traditionally a skill passed down from father to son, Dada is the first woman in her family to silversmith, and is part of a new generation of all female artisans putting their unique perspective on the craft.
This line of “Karen-Punk" silver jewellery is influenced by the anti-establishment views of punk
rock music, as well as the promotion of individual freedom, and do-it-yourself ethics.
This piece is crafted by Dada and her all female led group of artisans, and is made from handmade 97% recycled silver.
