The Toki is the adze blade, as a tool it was bound onto a wooden handle and used to carve the great canoes and details on the meeting houses. The toki is said to bring mana or authority to the wearer.
Thought to represent strength, leadership and resilience, the Niho (tooth) design is commonly associated with two animals – the whale and the shark.
