What is hōjicha?
Hōjicha is a roasted tea, made from green tea leaves. They can be made from more mature leaves, Sencha or from the leftover stems and twigs of the tencha or other teas (Kukicha). This is a great alternative to coffee and for those who have a low caffeine tolerance.

Why use hōjicha?
Perfect for you if you struggle with coffee and needing an alternative! Hōjicha has a lower amount of naturally occurring caffeine, and has antioxidants and L-theanine - this lessens the side effects normally associated with coffee such as anxiety and restlessness. It’s also a great natural food colouring and commonly seen in baked goods and desserts. The smokey caramel flavour is one you start to crave and great for an afternoon tea.
