Microsorum pteropus (Broad Leaf Java Fern)
Broad Leaf Java Fern ( Microsorum pteropus ) is a larger- leaved variant of the classic Java Fern, prized for its bold, textured foliage and exceptional hardiness. With wide, arching green leaves that can grow 4– 6 cm across and up to 30 cm tall, it creates a lush, jungle- like appearance in aquascapes.
Native to Southeast Asia, this epiphytic plant naturally grows on rocks, roots, and driftwood. It does not require planting in substrate and should have its rhizome exposed, making it perfect for aquariums with wood or stone hardscape.
Broad Leaf Java Fern is extremely beginner- friendly, thriving in low light, no CO₂ , and a wide range of water conditions. It grows slowly, making it a low- maintenance choice for foreground accents in large tanks or background placement in nano tanks.
