Greenstone - Pounamu | Large Bound Toki Pendant

The Toki design originates from the axe head which was used to chip, carve and hollow out wood & sometimes used as a weapon.

Representing strength, determination and courage in times of adversity. To wear a Toki is a great honour and was traditionally worn by Maori elders.

A most magnificent representation of how dynamic New Zealand Pounamu can be, these hand carved pendants have a beautiful contrast of rich dark green that flows into a uniquely mottled softer green.

New Zealand Greenstone sourced from the Rimu area, just south of Hokitika, on the West Coast of the South Island. Rimu emerged as a gold mining settlement in the late 19th Century and is now the source of some of the most beautiful Pounamu we see today. Rimu Greenstone is known for its magnificently rich, dark green colouring. These taonga are expertly hand carved by Master Carver Barry Dash in Greymouth, South Island.

Approximate measurements: 13cm Length x 3cm Width at base.

Each piece is unique. The taonga you receive has been carved from the same piece of greenstone as the piece pictured, so will be very similar, but small details like flecks and mottling will vary slightly.

Adjustable neck cord. Presented in a flax kete.
