The two Akoya pearls are not simply placed above and below the dial. They form the knots in a complete ribbon composition, with polished gold loops sweeping outward before curving around the miniature oval case. Held between them is a luminous mother of pearl dial with applied Roman numerals at the quarters, tiny gold dot markers and Mikimoto’s delicate emblem beneath twelve. Pearl, shell and gold each reflect light differently, giving the watch dimension without relying on diamonds or excessive ornament.

Its original red embossed leather strap changes the character completely. Against the softness of the pearls and shell, the saturated colour feels deliberate and graphic, preventing the design from becoming overly formal. The strap passes through the case as part of Mikimoto’s change strap construction, allowing the watch head to be worn with alternative colours. With black tailoring, cream silk, dark denim or a simple evening dress, the watch contributes one precise stroke of red while retaining the scale and finish of fine jewellery.
