What makes the BOOMER the premium choice for hydro excavation?
Three things separate the BOOMER from economy vacuum hoses: its ¼" thick gum rubber tube that absorbs abrasive impact rather than wearing through; its full vacuum rating, which handles the maximum capacity of industrial hydrovac units without deformation; and its -40°C to 100°C service temperature range. These aren’t marginal differences — in severe applications, these factors determine whether the hose lasts a few months or many times this long.
Is the BOOMER suitable for rock drilling rig tailings extraction?
Yes — this is one of the BOOMER’s strongest applications. Drill rig tailings involve a combination of jagged and highly abrasive pieces of small rock & dust, sustained vacuum, and often extended operating periods that rapidly destroy standard or economy vacuum hoses. The BOOMER’s thick tube, full vacuum rating, and durable construction make it well suited to this demanding work.
Is the BOOMER a good choice for mining and quarry slurry?
Yes. Mining and quarry slurry applications typically involve heavy, aggressive materials under sustained periods of operation — exactly the conditions the BOOMER is designed for. Where service life and reliability matter more than initial cost, the BOOMER is the recommended specification for slurry handling in these environments.
How does the BOOMER compare to the GeoVac?
The BOOMER is United Flexible’s premium vacuum hose; the GeoVac is a quality but lower spec alternative which is similar to most other hydrovac boom hose products offered by our competitors in NZ. The BOOMER is full vacuum rated, has a 10 bar working pressure, a wider temperature range, and a thicker tube. The pricing on BOOMER is usually somewhere in the range of 40-60% more than GeoVac for equivalent sizes. The GeoVac is suited to standard commercial hydrovac work and is lighter and more flexible — making it the better choice for hydrovac extension hose applications. The BOOMER is heavier and stiffer, designed for boom hose use on vacuum excavators and for demanding applications like rock drill rig tailings and mining slurry where manual handling of the hose is not required and service life is the priority.
Why is the BOOMER not ideal for extension hose use?
The BOOMER is built for heavy-duty boom applications — its thick tube and robust construction mean it is heavier and stiffer than economy vacuum hoses. For a fixed boom arm on a vacuum excavator, this is not a problem. For an extension hose that operators need to handle and manoeuvre by hand, the weight and stiffness become a practical issue. For hydro excavator extension hose applications, United Flexible recommends the GeoVac, which is lighter and more flexible while still performing well in this role.
Is the BOOMER rated for full vacuum?
Yes, BOOMER is rated for full vacuum — it maintains its bore shape and structural integrity under the full vacuum of industrial hydrovac units. This is a key specification that separates it from economy vacuum hoses, which are typically rated to 0.8–0.9 bar vacuum and may deform or restrict flow at higher vacuum levels.
