The calfpuller is designed for practical, reliable use during assisted calving. Its mechanism allows controlled traction in multiple directions, enabling straight pulling, upward traction for posterior presentations, and downward traction in the direction of the udder for normal births. The device uses a lever-driven hook system to apply a steady pulling force, available in either standard traction, where both hooks move together, or alternate traction, where hooks move one at a time for more controlled movement. The pole allows limited sideways adjustment of up to 30 degrees to assist in positioning while maintaining safe operation during delivery.
