Island mallow is an endangered species of mallow native to the Channel islands off the coast of California. We wrote an entire article about discovering some plants in New Zealand which is definitely worth reading.

The leaves are fully edible, being slightly crunchy (as the plant is partially adapted to dry conditions), and not fibrous either (unlike many other mallow species) with great taste (no bitterness). It is one of our favourite perennial salad leaf crops. It is fast growing, rarely bothered by insects and to our knowledge is not invasive. It’s also suitable as a chop and drop species. Reviews
