The a simple, modern slipover designed especially for newer garment knitters — or anyone wanting a calm, no-fuss knit for kids.

It is worked seamlessly from the top down in stockinette stitch. You begin with the back yoke, then pick up stitches to form the shoulders and front yoke. The front and back are joined at the underarms, and the body is worked in the round on a circular needle. Ribbed edges at the neckline and armholes are added at the end for a neat, polished finish.

The construction is logical and forgiving, and the pattern includes step-by-step help videos, making it ideal if this is your first time knitting a top-down garment for a child. Fit & Sizing

The designed with approximately 10 cm of positive ease, giving a comfortable, easy-to-layer fit.

This pattern is designed for a DK to light worsted weight yarn, knitted with a single strand.

Recommended yarn characteristics:

Smooth, plied yarn (not fuzzy or brushed)

Wool or wool-blend preferred for structure

Approx. 90–110 metres per 50 g

Good stitch definition for stockinette

Works well on 4 mm needles

The finished fabric should feel sturdy but soft — ideal for everyday wear, school layers, and cooler months.

8–9 yrs: ~540–600 m

9–10 yrs: ~600 m

10–12 yrs: ~650–700 m
