Explorers – Expanding Literacy Knowledge

The Explorers Hub is designed for children aged 5 - 10 years who have already mastered basic sounds and digraphs and are ready to expand their understanding of how letters work together to form more complex words.

This hub helps them understand that the same sound can be spelled in more than one way, such as 'ai' and 'ay', and that spelling choices often depend on word position or meaning. This stage encourages children to think like problem solvers, noticing patterns, comparing words, and applying what they’ve learned.

Each of the 8 workshops builds on the previous one, reinforcing literacy through structured, evidence-based learning to improve fluency and confidence. The content in this hub is designed to align with the second year of schooling under The New Zealand Curriculum. What Your Child Will Learn
