Unique Fern Collector's Art Work from 1950's
Here is something fascinating from a different era - it celebrates the once common hobby of drying and pressing native flora and assembling attractive scrap books and art work.
This art work measuring 720mm by 435mm has an oak frame and features two dried ferns - the first a Maidenhair collected in April 1957 from North Cape. The second a Lace Fern collected from the Bush of Wilton (Wellington) again in April 1957.
Both ferns, now nearly 70 year old, have excellent preservation. The unknown collector has hand written the scientific, common and Maori names along with details from the collection itself.
Frame and glass in good condition with minor wood scratches or veneer losses, minor water stains to bottom of card mount.
