Mortlach 'Adelphi' 1987 / 38 years old #1594 45.9%

Adelphi's reputation for selecting and bottling whisky from the Mortlach distillery is well known, especially from the late 1980's. This latest release was distilled in 1987 and bottled at 38 years of age, at a naturally low cask strength of 45.9%. The nose is offers an exotic and complex scent - initially sweet with icing sugar, travel sweeties, candied pear and Turkish delight, it becomes decidedly creamy with marzipan, custard and banana notes. A delicate floral note of peony and fresh linen give this Mortlach an airy and richly scented quality. On the palate, lashings of bright tropical fruits (guava) joins grapefruit, dried ginger and sherbet. The finish lingers on a leathery note, with pine needles and mandarin.
